Are you a woman writer in Northeast Ohio, looking for a writers group?

IWWG (International Women Writers Guild) has a "Kitchen Table" (fka Cluster) in Kent, Ohio.  At this time, we would invite women writers to any of our scheduled sessions.

No portfolio or credits are necessary to join; the only requirement is that you are a woman with the desire to write! All genres and levels of experience are welcome.  There are no dues at the local/regional level, all membership dues are paid directly to IWWG.  You will find more information, as well as membership forms at: www.iwwg.com

About US (Kent group)

We meet the third Sunday of each month, (September through May) from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm for our workshop/writing session followed by critique sessions (as needed) from approximately 3:30 pm until 5:00 pm.  Currently we have 49 members.  We meet at the Women's Resource Center ( Thank you for your continued support and use of your wonderful facility! ) on the main campus of Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.  The center is located in the former carriage house behind the Williamson Alumni House (formerly the President's house) located on East Main Street, between the Music & Speech Building and where Terrace Hall used to be.

The entry IS NOT on Main Street.  To enter, turn onto Midway Drive off of Main (some of you may remember this is where the "Arch" used to be) the entrance to the center is on the left.  There are signs for Williamson Alumni and Women's Resource Center. Parking is generally not a problem on Sundays, but there are WRC signs indicating spots to use.

If you would like more information, email me at: writer@bigwits.com

Here are the scheduled dates and topics to be addressed.  Again, we meet the third Sunday of the Month.

NOVEMBER 18

Member Doris Larson will be our guest author.  Doris has two books published: Great Inn Getaways from Cleveland; Restful and Romantic Destinations Just a Short Drive from Home and Bed & Breakfast Getaways from Cleveland. Doris will share her knowledge, experience and techniques as she presents: "Keeping a Travel Journal."

DECEMBER 16  HAS BEEN CANCELED

Member Celeste Billhartz will present The Mothers Project.  The Mother's Project is a program of poems, narratives, images and songs about the millions of "unwed" mothers from past generations who were forced to surrender their babies for adoption. (rescheduled for February)

JANUARY 20

Janet D. suggested we discuss our "companion" book(s).  For those who weren't at the October meeting, Carole sighted several books, that she considers her "companion" books. These are not necessarily "how to books" rather books that she not only enjoyed reading, but books she uses as reference or for guidance, in her own writings.  Books she has dissected, not only to see the structure of the book, but to find specifics within the structure, to help understand why it works and then applying it to her writing.  So first, decide whether you have a companion book. If you don't have a companion book, here are a couple that Carol recommends (in relation to memoir) The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls; The Narrative Arc by Morrow; The Heroine's Journey by Maureen Murdock (who by the way is a member of IWWG and frequently teaches at the annual week long conference - read more about conference at IWWG website). Doris and a few others recommended Unreliable Truth, also by Maureen.  If you have what you consider a companion book, read through it again (if need be), so you can discuss just how/why this book has been helpful for you, and how you think it can help others..

FEBRUARY 17

Member Celeste Billhartz will present The Mothers Project.

MARCH 16 Prompted writing exercises and sharing.
